Find Something New Every Day

” Every day may be the same but those who choose to find something different in every day have the brightest days of all.”

As I took my morning walk and laid out my concerns and thanks to God, I thought about how I take this same walk almost every day. The same two routes depending on time are usually what I stick to with the same steps past the same houses, cars, plants and trees. I never get tired of either path because I see something new every day. I look on the ground and see new litter, new rocks. I look at the houses and sometimes the cars are there and sometimes they are not. I see the birds and depending on if I switch up part of those routes, I seem to see more of them. Working from home my days and environment are the same just like my daily routine. I might do things in different orders depending on the importance but it’s the same work in the same chair looking at the same 3 screens day in and day out. There is no change.

I could dwell on sameness but I am not wired like that. I see things that others do not and notice when the things surrounding me change with the seasons, weather or circumstances. I like to find new things in my day and I appreciate those things because it’s those things that so many people miss in their beeline focus of getting their day done. When it rains I appreciate the smell of the rain and coolness of the air. In the fall I notice the leaves that fall covering the ground that I’ve walked so many times. I like to find funny shaped stones and leaves that are pretty colors, whirly-birds and acorns that remind me that you don’t have to know how to whistle to be able to do it. Every day is different for me and that brings me joy so I don’t get caught up in the drab thought of every day being the same. That’s a dangerous place to get caught up in.

My steps and my stride might be different but I take a very different walk daily. Look around you and notice what is new or different that you didn’t notice before.
