Instead Of

“Instead of being angry that you’re not at your ideal weight, be thankful you aren’t 25 lbs heavier. Instead of being bent that you don’t have a new car, be grateful yours gets you where you need to be. Instead of being mad that your kids don’t help out without being asked, be thankful that they do anything you ask them to. Your glass is your choice full or empty is up to you.”

I was about half way in my walk this morning talking to God and I was thanking him for all that I have. All that I have meaning health, life, sight etc. It occurred to me that it is so easy for us as imperfect human beings to grumble about things. We love to complain about what we don’t have, what other people don’t do for us and basically why our lives stink. I thought how easy would it be just to be thankful for the other side of the coin. Be happy that you’re not in a higher pant size because you could be. Be happy that when you get in your car, old or new, beater box or relatively respectable that it starts and you can run errands instead of calling for a Lyft. Be happy that you have kids that never say no to any request you make. Mine might forget to do it sometimes but they never say no and they do in fact, help out without being asked just not like I would like. I’m fortunate to have loving kids that pitch in. I could find a million things to complain about but that just brings me down and away from intention. I’m reading “The Power of Intention” by Dr. Wayne Dyer and I really like it. Elevate yourself above negative thoughts to clear the way for positive ones. Be happy and you’ll attract happy people into your life. Be intentional in your thanks, kindness and love and thanks, kindness and love will find their way to you.
