Let It Play Out

“Things and people in life will sometimes surprise you and maybe even take you off guard. Sometimes you need to be still and let it play out to see what develops. You might find that the end result is nothing close to what you assumed it would be at first.”

Today my son started a text based morning prayer group. First let me say this is SO far away from anything that I thought he would ever do that all I could say to myself was “WHAT??” He’s moving to SC soon and his girlfriends family is VERY faithful. They go to church every week but they carry God with them every day. They pray at every meal and they worship in weekly groups. It’s just what they do and how they are. They live in a place where that is part of the culture. When John first started dating her she gave him a Bible. I thought “He’s never going to read that”. Well he does read it in part for scripture when he needs it and now that I’ve shown him it has daily readings in it, he may read it daily like I do. His use of the Bible has surprised me. I’ve known him his whole life and although he went to church he’s not overly religious or faithful that I could see. It seems that he may have just needed to find a place that he liked and a church that he enjoyed going to. Is some of this driven because of her and her family? You know, the want to impress the family kind of thing? Maybe but I’m going to watch and see how it plays out. We all spread our wings but we fly in different directions. As parents we need to allow our kids to try new things and to figure out who they are which may not be who we think they are. Have faith and see what happens. You may just be surprised.
