“The rock you throw in the pond doesn’t see the ripples it creates. Say hello to a stranger whenever you can. it might change their day in ways you’ll never know.”
I struggled finding the Brenspiration today. Sometimes it takes some time for me to find it. I decided to listen to Alistair Begg today and the message was one of two parts entitled Holiness. Part of this message talked about Alistair as a delivery boy earlier in his life. There was a customer that he was supposed to deliver to who had a dog. The dog was loud and scary and Alistair just left the package where the customer had to fetch it because he was scared of the dog he couldn’t see. Turns out that the dog was tied up away from the walkway to the door. His boss said “open the gate and go in”.
That got me thinking about how we don’t know someone unless we make an effort to “go in the gate” and get to know them. The final message above took a while but I thought about how much I enjoy saying hello to the strangers I walk past on my morning walks, most of whom are my neighbors. I know how happy I am just saying hello because they always say hello back. I often wonder what they think of my hello as we pass one another and I wonder if their day is better just because someone was nice to them. You never know what someone is going through and believe me, going through tough times alone is awful! If I can brighten just one day with a simple hello, I will. There’s so much hate and negativity these days that I can at least try and sprinkle some happiness along my path. The smiles we leave behind might never be known to us but we should leave them behind anyway. The world is a better place with nice people.
